August 08, Reviews. Once, his incredible dance prowess stood in comic contrast to his nerdy appearance. Now, he looks more comfortable dancing with beautiful women than wearing his lab suit. In small doses, Moose was a delight. As for original Step Up star Channing Tatum, he got the hell out long ago and never looked back. Unable to find jobs, and running out of the money they made from a Nike ad six months earlier, Asa and his crew discover an opportunity that could change their lives: a VH-1 reality dance competition called The Vortex that promises its winner a three-year television contract.
The Vortex is hosted by Alexxa Brava Izabella Miko , a Lady Gaga figure whose eye-rolling, head-swiveling, twitchy performance suggests she sees the film as a feature-length audition for the Gina Gershon role in a Showgirls remake. Like Lady Gaga, Alexxa delights in turning herself into a living piece of topiary—think the hedge maze in The Shining, only as a sexy lady—and her enormous, elaborate, yet revealing outfits are triumphs of design and construction.
Step Up All In throws in a sequence of children dancing that does nothing to advance the plot, but does offer the crowd-pleasing spectacle of adorable tots busting moves. It would not be terribly surprising if a deleted scene features the cast playing with kittens and puppies for five minutes while gyrating lazily. The climactic dance sequence is even more blatant in its disregard for verisimilitude, in that it features the prominent, extensive use of fire in ways that would undoubtedly get the crew fired, and also possibly killed.
Step Up All In is a slave to spectacle over logic. The whole idea of having a secret, conspiratorial relationship is to keep the conspiring secret.

That said, the flash mob squad at the heart of the film does take pride in breaking laws to get the attention they want on YouTube. A fistfight erupts after a particularly aggressive dance sequence.

His portrayal of Tyler Gage, a skilled but troubled hip-hop dancer, was a breakthrough performance for him. He also married his co-star from the movie, Jenna Dewan. Jenna Dewan began her career as a backup dancer for Janet Jackson before moving on to movies.
Ryan Guzman and Briana Evigan Return to Star in ‘Step Up 5’. Trish Sie is directing this dance sequel that will include several other franchise favorites such as.
This article is from the archive of our partner. So how do all five movies relate to one another? We’re here to explain. In an industry where sequels are the rule it’s still surprisingly rare for a film franchise to make it to number 5. Typically that franchise needs to have visceral thrills of which an audience will never tire, things like car chases The Fast and the Furious , exploding viscera Final Destination , Saw , Resident Evil , A Nightmare on Elm Street , laserbeams Star Trek , or small black women shouting into bullhorns Police Academy.
We can now add to this list ‘hunks doing body-rolls’ because with Step Up All In , everybody’s favorite dance-movie franchise has finally unlocked this rarified achievement: a FIFTH theatrically released film! But for those who weren’t already familiar with this very important series it can be hard to keep straight how all five seemingly stand-alone movies actually relate to one another they do! Allow us to explain with this simple primer.
That’s because Anne Fletcher’s dance drama was more concerned with a wrong-side-of-the-tracks romance than exciting set-pieces. In a star-making turn for Channing Tatum well, star-making to those who hadn’t already seen his star-making turn in Amanda Bynes’ finest hour She’s the Man , the model turned actor used his legit dancing skills previously only seen in Florida strip clubs to dazzling effect. Tatum played Tyler, a kid who’d grown up in the system and fell in with the wrong crew, leading him to vandalize a local arts high school.

Some is far too close to having sex. She comes to Miami with the hope of joining an exclusive dance company. Because of a misunderstanding, a portion of the group stages an uglier protest and gets disqualified from the Internet contest because of their criminal behavior.
RedEye’s Lisa Arnett interviews ‘Step Up Revolution’ stars Kathryn McCormick and Ryan Guzman. In , “Step Up” didn’t just jumpstart the.
Moviegoers at “Step Up Revolution” this weekend will be surprised — no, shocked — to learn that stars Ryan Guzman and Kathryn McCormick, who both seem so sure of themselves onscreen, are both trying something new. Guzman, 24, insists he’d never even taken a dance class before taking on the role of a dancer and choreographer! Before his audition, the model-turned-actor and former Mixed Martial Arts fighter was watching YouTube videos to learn some moves. My friends had told me I needed to get into acting class, but I didn’t really take the time away from dance to do it, so I think acting kind of found me,” she says.
The story of the “Step Up” franchise’s fourth film is about Guzman’s character, a Miami hotel employee named Sean, and McCormick’s character, Emily, the daughter of a local hotel owner, falling in love. Dancing comes into play because both are aspiring professional dancers whose families wish they’d choose a more sensible career, and, more importantly, both are involved in a group of flash mobbers, known as The Mob, that gives some amazing performances in several different dance styles in the movie.
If you think that sounds a little like another dancing flick, “Dirty Dancing,” McCormick agrees. Once novice dancer Guzman and novice actress McCormick were hired, they began rehearsals that lasted about nine hours a day for three weeks! Guzman, who’s in every dance scene, says he ran back and forth between two practice rooms working on the flash mob dances with The Mob dancers in one, and McCormick on a contemporary dance that the couple perform together in the other.
‘Step Up: Revolution’ Star Ryan Guzman on Love & Dating: “I Am Very Single”
Sean is the leader of the famous crew The Mob , along with his best friend Eddy. He is a very talented dancer and choreographer. During a beach party he meets and falls in love with Emily , the daughter of his employer. They engage in a dance battle but she leaves quickly after that. Sean later serves Emily a drink but she spills it all over her leg. While watching her dancing, he invites her to the next flashmob of his crew.

A year later, they can’t even get an audition in the ultra-competitive world of professional dance. Most of the group is ready to return to their Miami roots, but Sean is determined to conquer Hollywood, even if he has to do it alone. Sean reconnects with his old pal Moose Adam Sevani through work at a mom-and-pop dance studio. But he soon has his eye on a much bigger prize: ‘The Vortex,” a reality television series that pits the best dance crews from all over the country against each other, with the winner receiving a three-year contract in a top Las Vegas venue.
Sean and Moose quickly assemble LMNTRIX, a dance crew that features some of their most talented colleagues, including the beautiful and headstrong Andie West Briana Evigan , whose take-no-prisoners approach to dance matches Sean’s own. With all three groups putting everything they’ve got into the winner-take-all fight to the finish on live television, the stage is set for the most innovative and over-the-top performances yet in a series that has become an international box office phenomenon.
In , Jennifer Gibgot and her brother Adam Shankman launched a worldwide dance juggernaut with the first Step Up, a high-energy hip-hop romance that paired a street-smart b-boy with an ambitious ballerina. After building on the film’s international popularity to create three follow up chapters that have defined a new genre of dance movies, the producers of Step Up once again bring their unique blend of urban grit and classical craft to Step Up All In, the franchise’s most compelling chapter yet.
Where Revolution explored the world of the flash mob and their very public statements, this new film takes a close look at the life of professional dancers. Adam Shankman, who began his career as a dancer before becoming a successful choreographer, director, and producer, wanted to make a movie about the challenges of that life. So this movie is in some ways more personal than the others.
